Civilization V, finally got it!

Strategy games?

Definitely yes. Tour-based? Awesome! As I don't play many tour-based strategy games, I always enjoy them, probably the most. You know HOMM III, Fallout 2 and many more (CiV's too, obviously).

What makes them so good?

Good and fun to play. The reason number one for me is that you can actually go away from your pc for a while, and your enemies won't go on, even if you'll forget to press escape. Of course not in multiplayer, which takes days to complete but its still a huge advantage of the game itself.

Conquer the world!

Of course that everyone want's to be the "supreme leader" or a great general, that will lead its own country to magnificent victories, conquering the lands of civilizations that have weaker technology and armies than you do. Rule the world, change the history and learn by doing it, right? Its just amazing!

Economy!

Learn while you play- in strategy games it actually works! Think under pression (sometimes do get's serious) and plan your further steps. Somehow, after a while, you actually make your brain think better at these strategic points, mostly by trying to be/do something/somewhere first, to block your enemies. Sweating may be included.

So, should I buy it?

Of course you should buy some strategy games, like, right now! Hey, I'm a "hardcore" FPS fan/player/whatever but playing arcade and strategy games, does make you better at some fps games. Why? Because as you have experience of dealing with obstacles in the battle, you also can now manage to overthing your enemies moves! Clever right?

But of course you shouldn't buy it only to get better at other games, strategy games are really fun to play. I'd strongly recommend to get Civilization V, Starcraft 2, Age of Empires 2, Company of Heroes and Command & Conquer Generals (maybe with Zero Hour addon). These games are hell of a fun with a great AI, but if you're also an old-school gamer, check out for my favourite of all time: Dungeon Keeper 2 which should be available at gog.com.

So, if you prefer steam, here you are, there's also a -75% off deal on Civilization V so be fast!
There are many more games like Medival 2 Total War or Rome Total War which are also worth a look. Strategy games market isn't as big as FPS market. It has less, but better games. Take care!
